At
present, self-study examination has been carried out in
31 provinces, autonomous districts, and cities and in
the army (there are also examination sites in Hong Kong).
By the end of the first half year of 2002, the accumulated
signing number for national self-study examination is
37 million, the number of examinees on record is 17.04
million, the number of graduates is 3.7 million, and the
number of subjects tested is 280 of 11 categories.16 percent
of all the examinees prepared for the examination in their
spare time, 31 percent full time and 53 percent completely
depending on self-study.
The self-study
examination in higher education is open and flexible.
A little sum of investment in the examination could bring
out high benefit. This examination form arouses few conflicts
between study and work. It has no limitation on education
level, age, physical condition, profession and location.
All the above-mentioned features are advantages of self-study
examination. It also shows the equality, democracy and
popular essence of modern education. The self-study examination
can effectively meet peoples' increasing needs of accepting
higher education, continuous education and life-long education.
